It has been 25 years since Augusto Pinochet took power in Chile by means of a bloody coup. However the world has not forgotten the crimes committed by this dictator during his last regime.
A life member of the senate, Pinochet has been able to evade justice hiding behind the military men of his country, who still administer politics in a councealed way, with an apparent civil government headed by Eduardo Frei.
Today however Pinochet´s "light" seems to be fading. His arrest by the english government at Spain´s request, brings hope to those who lived those days -as foreign spectators- that he will be tried and judged at least for the crimes committed against spanish citizens. It should remain clear that it is not possible to apply to this assasin a punishment or a payment for the crimes of humanity that he committed during his term in power.
Its fortunate for both the English and Spanish, that there is an effort to try to bring the former dictator Augusto Pinochet to justice.
It is hopeful that there is the possibility of his being punished him for the crimes committed during his regime. It's also fortunate that the international community has the opportunity to support this effort and that justice be rendered.
